Magic Johnson was the honored guest yesterday at a charity basketball game in Athens to raise money for a global AIDS campaign and victims of recent deadly wildfires in Greece that killed at least 65 people. "Thank you for allowing me to come to your beautiful country," Johnson, who did not play Tuesday, said before the start of the game. "This is to help all the people with HIV/AIDS and for the people affected by that terrible fire."

The game, held under the auspices of UNICEF's office in Greece, featured the Greece team that won the European championship 20 years ago by beating the Soviet Union in a close final. They faced the national under-19 team.

Farm Aid '07 was held at Randal's Island in New York City yesterday. Artists including John Mellencamp, Dave Matthews, Willie Nelson, Montgomery Gentry and Counting Crows turned out to help raise money to save family farms in the US.

Willie Nelson, Neil Young and John Mellencamp organized the first Farm Aid concert in 1985 to raise awareness about the loss of family farms and to raise funds to keep farm families on their land. Dave Matthews joined the Farm Aid Board of Directors in 2001. Farm Aid has raised more than $30 million to promote a strong and resilient family farm system of agriculture. The great tenor Luciano Pavarotti has died at the age of 71. Pavarotti had been fighting a long battle with pancreatic cancer. The world famous opera singer died at his home in Modena, Italy. Reports are in that Bill Murray is facing drunk driving charges after driving through downtown Stockholm, Sweden in a golf cart on Monday and refusing to take a breath test. When police pulled the Rushmore actor over, they noticed that he smelled of alcohol.

"He refused to blow in the (breath test) instrument, citing American legislation," Detective-Inspector Christer Holmlund said. "So we applied the old method a blood test. It will take 14 days before the results are in."

Murray signed a document admitting that he drove under the influence and agreed to let a police officer plead guilty for him if the case needs to go to court.

Mike Reid passed away at his home in Marbella on July 30th at the age of 67 after suffering a suspected heart attack.

Actress Michelle Pfeiffer was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, yesterday. And, her old pal, Jeff Bridges, turned up to help present her with the award.

Pfeiffer's new film, Stardust, is in theaters now. It's her first new film since she took a five-year break to raise and spend time with her family.

The Police performed at Madison Square Garden last night as part of their 30th Anniversary Reunion Tour and received rave reviews from fans and critics, alike.

The band formed in 1977 and, five ambitious albums later, broke up in 1984. Each of the band's members, Sting, Andy Summers and Stewart Copeland yearned to pursue his own path.

Legendary actress Gena Rowlands finds love on the silver screen in the new film Broken English and quite possibly in real life. Rowlands, who stars in the film with Parker Posey (Rowlands plays her character's mother), was seen last night at Mr. Chow in Beverly Hills with a date who planted a kiss on her cheek as they were leaving after dinner.

Friends and family attend the memorial for Gianni Versace at teatro LaScala in Milan ten years after his death. In celebration of the life of Versace, French choreographer Marice Bejart composed the ballet "Thank You Gianni with Love," performed for the first time at the tribute.

Those in attendance included the Donatella and Santo Versace with other members of the Versace family, Jessica Alba, Naomi Campbell, Claudia Schiffer, Rupert Everett and Geri Halliwell.

Gianni Versace was killed in front of his home in Miami Beach, Florida on July 15, 1997.
