It's been reported that 27-year-old Tony Barretto, Britney Spears' former bodyguard, has asked the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services to open a child abuse investigation, according to his attorney, Gloria Allred, who says that he met with officials last week to formally lodge a "child abuse referral."
"The referral asks for an investigation into Britney Spears and her behavior with her two young children," Allred said in a statement. "It was our understanding at the end of the meeting ... (that) the department will investigate to the best of their ability...It was important that we filed because the department has no legal power to investigate unless there is a filing. Now that we have filed, they have the power to open an investigation."
One expert, family law lawyer Lynn Soodik said, "A referral to the department is extremely serious."
This latest blow in Britney's custody case with Kevin Federline following her loss of custody of the boys, Sean Preston, 2, and Jayden, 1, is devastatingly timed since a judge has just ordered her to pay for parenting counseling and drug-testing before she can regain custody of her sons.
According to friends of the singer, "She has complained that she is down to her last $10 million. For anyone else that might seem a fortune, but she is spending millions on everything from lawyers to her lifestyle. She is going to run dry at this rate. She isn't touring so she has no big pay cheques coming in....She isn't stinting herself. It's madness."
